Every reference in an answer links to a real legal document. Unlike general-purpose AI tools (ChatGPT, Copilot, Gemini, Claude), DirectCase has access to extensive collections of legal sources and links directly to the original documents. One click takes you to the original text of the legislation or judgment.
Every answer includes clickable citations linking to the original text of the legislation or decision. You can see the case number, date, court and the relevant passage. Checking a single source takes a few seconds. You don't need to take the system's word for it — just click through and read the original.
The database covers case law from national courts. It also includes case law from the Court of Justice of the EU and the European Court of Human Rights. For each country, we publish exact document counts and the type of source available, such as court decisions, legislation, the legislative process, and regulatory authorities.
We maintain the database on an ongoing basis. New case law and changes to legislation are added daily; some sources are updated on a weekly cycle, depending on how often the publisher releases them.
Depending on the task, you can choose from several language models from leading providers, such as Anthropic, OpenAI and Gemini. Model selection is included in our higher-tier plans; our top plan also offers locally hosted open-source models for maximum data confidentiality, though these typically produce lower-quality output. We update the models regularly so you always have access to the latest technology. Using MCP, you can also connect your own AI subscription to access the most powerful models available.
ChatGPT doesn't have access to specialist legal databases. It can cite case numbers or statutory provisions that don't actually exist, because it builds its answers from general data, internet articles or online forums. DirectCase is AI built specifically for law. It draws on verified sources of national and European law. You can instantly verify every citation in the original document.

Yes. A single account can manage an entire team. You purchase the number of licences (seats) you need, invite colleagues by email, and manage their access from one central dashboard. You can add or remove members as required, and billing adjusts automatically to the number of seats. Each member has their own login, while you retain central control over the whole team.
User data is never used to train the models. Communications are encrypted, and servers are located in the EU. The system is designed with the legal profession's duty of client confidentiality in mind.

You'll find all your invoices directly in the app, in the Subscription section, and you can download them as a PDF at any time. You can add your company's billing details, including your VAT number, to your account, so invoices are issued in line with applicable VAT rules. For eligible business customers with a valid VAT number in another EU country, the reverse-charge mechanism applies.
Each licence is for a single individual, as set out in our Terms of Use. DirectCase allows a maximum of 2 active logins at the same time, for example on a desktop and a laptop. If you log in on a third device, the oldest session is ended automatically. Sharing your login details with another person is a breach of the licence agreement.
DirectCase includes daily query limits designed around normal professional use. We understand that legal work can involve intense periods — for example, when preparing a case or facing an urgent deadline. That said, systematically exceeding normal usage patterns, particularly through account sharing or automated access, is treated as a breach of the fair use policy set out in our Terms of Use.

Yes. We also run local models on DirectCase's own servers, in which case your data never leaves the EU at all. However, the output quality of these models is typically lower than that of models from providers such as Anthropic, Google and OpenAI.
As a rule, we recommend choosing a model with your language and jurisdiction in mind. You'll find our recommended model directly in the model selector.
The data anonymisation feature removes standard personal data — such as date of birth, national identification number, phone number, email address and so on — before it's sent to the server. However, this feature only works for text input. If personal data appears within an attached file, it cannot be removed. Attachments are automatically deleted after 90 days, and this cannot be turned off.
