Every reference in an answer links to an actual legal document. Unlike general-purpose AI tools (ChatGPT, Copilot, Gemini, Claude), DirectCase draws on extensive collections of legal sources and links directly to the original documents. One click takes you straight to the full text of the legislation or judgment.
Every answer includes clickable citations linking to the original text of the legislation or decision. You can see the case reference, date, court and the relevant passage. Checking a single source takes just a few seconds. You don't need to take the system's word for it — just click through and read the original.
The database covers court decisions from the national jurisdiction. It also includes case law from the Court of Justice of the EU and the European Court of Human Rights. For each jurisdiction, we publish exact document counts along with the source type — court decisions, legislation, the legislative process and regulatory authorities.
We maintain the database on an ongoing basis. New case law and legislative changes are added daily; some sources are updated on a weekly cycle, depending on how often the publisher issues them.
Depending on the task, you can choose from several language models from leading providers such as Anthropic, OpenAI and Gemini. Model choice is included in the higher-tier plans; the top plan also offers locally hosted open-source models for maximum data confidentiality, though these come with lower output quality. We update the models regularly so you always have access to the latest technology. Through MCP, you can also connect your own AI subscription to access the most powerful models available.
ChatGPT doesn't have access to specialist legal databases. It can cite case references or statutory provisions that don't actually exist, because its answers are drawn from general data, web articles or online forums. DirectCase is AI built specifically for law. It works with verified sources of national and European law. Every citation can be verified instantly against the original document.
DirectCase is an excellent addition that speeds up your work. Traditional legal research software requires you to already know exactly what you're looking for. DirectCase works the other way round: describe the issue in your own words and get an answer with citations. An average AI legal search takes up to 2 minutes. The same task in a traditional database can take hours.
DirectCase is AI built for solicitors, barristers, trainee solicitors, in-house counsel and entire law firms. Judges also use it for case-law research. Public sector and civil service staff use it to search and interpret legislation.
Yes. A single account can manage an entire team. You purchase the number of licences (seats) you need, invite colleagues by email, and manage their access from one central dashboard. You can add or remove members as needed — billing adjusts automatically to the number of seats. Each member has their own login, while you retain central control over the whole team.
User data is never used to train the models. Communications are encrypted and our servers are located in the EU. The system is designed with solicitors' duty of confidentiality in mind.

You'll find all your invoices directly in the app, under the Subscription section, and you can download them as a PDF at any time. You can add your company's billing details to your account, including your VAT number (EU VAT), so invoices are issued in line with EU VAT rules. Where a valid VAT number from another EU country is provided, the reverse-charge mechanism applies.
Each licence is intended for a single person, as set out in our Terms of Use. DirectCase allows a maximum of 2 active logins at the same time, for example on a desktop and a laptop. If you log in on a third device, the oldest session is automatically ended. Sharing login credentials with another person is a breach of the licence agreement.
DirectCase includes daily query limits designed to support normal professional use. We understand that legal work can bring intense periods — for example when preparing a case or facing tight deadlines. At the same time, systematically exceeding normal usage patterns, particularly through account sharing or automated access, is treated as a breach of the fair use policy set out in our Terms of Use.

Yes — we also run local models on DirectCase's own servers, in which case your data never leaves the EU at all. However, the output quality of these models is generally lower than that of models from providers such as Anthropic, Google and OpenAI.
As a default, we recommend choosing a model with your language and jurisdiction in mind. You'll find our recommended model directly in the model selector.
The data anonymisation feature removes standard personal data — such as date of birth, personal identification number, phone number, email address and similar — before it's sent to the server. This feature only works for text input, though. If personal data appears in an attached file, it cannot be removed. Attachments are automatically deleted after 90 days, and this cannot be turned off.
