The outcome of a dispute is rarely decided by what sits at the top of a search. What decides it is the connections between legislation and case law that no single document shows on its own. Until now, bringing them together meant hours of work, a whole team and expensive licences.

We’re changing that. Precision shouldn’t depend on the size of a firm or its budget. We want precise analysis and mapped-out connections available to everyone who works with legal sources. Every source stays one click away, in the original, so AI never replaces checking the source text yourself.

Other tools want to lock users into their own environment. We do the opposite: the tool adapts to your work and is built on an open standard. You don’t need to migrate your workflows, store files in yet another system, or learn a new interface. Connect it to the tools you already use: Word, Claude, Copilot and others. Your files stay with you; you never upload them to DirectCase.

Strategy is your decision. Our job is to give you the precise groundwork for it.

A data processing agreement (DPA) is part of every contract. All communication is encrypted and our servers are in the EU (Germany). How we handle data is described transparently in the terms of service and the privacy policy.

High level of security

We follow data security best practices. The content of your queries is not used to train AI. We also offer processing by local models on DirectCase servers, without third-party involvement. You can protect your account with two-factor authentication.

Minimal data footprint

Queries and uploaded documents are deleted automatically from all systems after 90 days. You can also delete them permanently yourself at any time. With the MCP connector, the content of your queries is never stored at DirectCase at all, and you control how much information DirectCase processes.

DirectCase is an AI tool for fast legal research. You ask in plain language, the way you’d ask a colleague. The system searches more than 305 005 verified legal sources and returns a structured answer with citations. You check each citation with one click in the original document. The whole process takes a minute.
Every link in the answer leads to a real legal document. Unlike general AI tools (ChatGPT, Copilot, Gemini, Claude), DirectCase has access to extensive collections of legal sources and always links to the original documents. One click takes you to the original text of the law or judgment.
Every answer contains clickable citations linking to the original text of the law or decision. You see the case number, the date, the court and the relevant passage. Checking one source takes a few seconds. You don’t need to trust the system: just click and read the original.
DirectCase covers case law from the Court of Justice of the EU and the European Court of Human Rights. For each country we publish the exact document counts and source type: court decisions.
We add new case law and legislative changes daily; some sources are updated weekly, depending on how often their publisher releases them.
Depending on the task, you can choose from several language models from major providers, such as Anthropic, OpenAI and Gemini. Model choice comes with the higher plans; the top plan also offers locally run open-source models for maximum data confidentiality, though their output is lower quality. We update the models on an ongoing basis. With MCP, you can also connect DirectCase to your own AI subscription and use its models.
ChatGPT does not have access to specialised legal databases. It can cite case numbers or sections that don’t exist, because it builds its answers from general data, articles it finds online or discussion forums. DirectCase is AI built specifically for legal research. It works with verified sources of national and European law. You verify every citation immediately in the original document.
DirectCase complements a traditional database and speeds up the work. Traditional legal software requires you to know exactly what you’re looking for. DirectCase works the other way round: you describe the problem in your own words and get an answer with citations. An average AI legal search takes under a minute. In a traditional database, the same task can take several hours.
DirectCase is AI for legal professionals: solicitors, barristers, trainee solicitors and in-house legal teams. Judges use it for case law research too, and public administration staff use it to search and interpret legislation.
Yes. One account can manage the whole team. You buy the number of licences (seats) you need, invite colleagues by email and manage their access from a single dashboard. You add and remove members as needed, and billing adjusts to the number of seats. Each member has their own login, and you’re in control of the whole team.
User data is not used to train models. Communication is encrypted, and the servers are in the EU. The system is designed with the solicitor’s duty of confidentiality in mind.
The first 10 queries are free, with no card details required. Registration takes a minute. Subscriptions start from 99 € a month, billed annually. You can cancel at any time, with no commitment.
You’ll find all your invoices directly in the app, under Subscription, and you can download them as a PDF at any time. You add your company’s billing details to your account, including your VAT number, so invoices are issued in line with EU VAT rules. Where a valid VAT number from another EU country is on file, the reverse charge applies.
Each licence is for one person, as set out in the Terms of Use. DirectCase allows a maximum of 2 active sessions at the same time, for example on a desktop and a laptop. If you log in on a third device, the oldest session ends automatically. Sharing login details with another person breaches the licence agreement.
DirectCase applies daily query limits designed for normal professional use. We understand that legal work sometimes means busy periods, for example while preparing a case or facing urgent deadlines. At the same time, systematically exceeding normal usage patterns, particularly through account sharing or automated access, is treated as a breach of the fair use policy that forms part of the Terms of Use.
You get 10 free queries to try it out. Subscriptions start with a one-month minimum term. The annual subscription, with a one-year term, offers a better price.
Yes. Local models run on DirectCase servers and your queries never leave them. The output quality of these models is generally lower, though, compared with models from providers such as Anthropic, Google and OpenAI.
We recommend choosing a model based on language and jurisdiction. You’ll find the recommended model directly in the model picker.
Anonymisation removes common personal data, such as date of birth, PPS number, phone number and email, before the data is sent to the server. The feature is only available for text input, though. If personal data is in an attached file, it can’t be removed. Attachments are deleted automatically after 90 days, and this cannot be turned off.
